County Jail and Records
For current jail status, call the Huron County Jail at 989-269-6424. The jail and Sheriff’s Office are at 120 South Heisterman Street, Bad Axe, MI 48413. The Sheriff’s Records Office, staffed by Charlie Stevens and Kim Kociba, is at 989-269-6500. Posted county office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Lt. Ryan Neumann, jail administrator, can be reached at 989-269-9910 or neumannr@co.huron.mi.us. Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson uses the same administration number and hansonk@co.huron.mi.us. These contacts can route a question, but do not promise that staff will email a photograph without a formal request.
Request an Official Record
Use the county’s Sheriff FOIA request form for a county-held booking card, intake record, or booking photograph. Michigan law does not require that exact form, but it helps make a request clear. Include the full name, aliases, date range, arresting agency, case number if known, and exact records sought. Ask for segregable portions and an itemized fee estimate.
No special Huron County booking-photo fee or guaranteed turnaround was posted. Michigan FOIA guidance generally gives a public body five business days to respond, with a possible ten-business-day extension. A response may grant, deny, seek clarification, or estimate fees.
